"Half a t-rex’ is entirely constructed from samples of gamelan instruments I collated during my stature in the gamelan ensemble this year. Inspired by Autechre’s ‘VI Scose Poise’ with it’s use of sputtering glitched-out sounds of pipes, this track features a recording of me playing the Kendang that has been pitched up using Ableton’s sample time-stretching algorithm, giving a glitch-heavy rhythmic structure to the track. The overtones of the drum were amplified with compressors, bringing out the F#-major7 ‘chord’ that is present in the resonant frequencies of the drum. Recordings of gongs, slenthems, and bonangs sit in the background, providing an ambient layer that contrasts with the intensity of the drum sample.'
